NEPVA Deep Sea Fishing

On September 23rd 22 members, family, and friends set sail from Plymouth harbor for the Annual deep sea fishing trip on the Sun III a Captain Johns boat. The weather was unseasonably warm with clear skies and seas. This was the largest turnout NEPVA has had in this Annual event and that was with 5 five members that had confirmed not attending. I am currently in the planning stages for NEPVA two one day Bass Tournaments; one will be help here in MA. (3rd Annual on the Charles River) and a second in NH at Lake Winnapausakee. As soon as dates are selected I will report here and on the website calendar. Click to see more Deep Sea Fishing Pic's.

The fishing was much better this time of the year than earlier as we'd done the last few years so I feel We will continue to schedule the trip later. There will only be one trip annually until the chapter can increase income since funding is limited and we have so many recreation events to fund. I have an exciting Development to report, someone other than a Ross family member won the fish pool this year  NEPVA Congratulates Raymond Dupuis of Fitchburg, uncle of member Gary Dupuis, who won the pool with a 10 lb. Codfish. I must mention Paul Ross and sons missed this year due to an injury, we missed him; yet, it was great for someone else to win finally! NEPVA wishes Paul a speedy recovery and hope to see him next year. Although most fish were smaller, with the new increased size limit of 21 inches minimum, keepers were less numerous. I think everyone caught at least one fish and I know I had to release 7 before finally boating an 8 lb. Keeper. I believe the limit is a great idea to manage our fisheries; look at how the increased striped bass limit has led to improved numbers of large stripers being caught in New England waters since it's inception. I'd like to thank all who attended for making this trip the best ever and look forward to seeing you all next year. Have a great winter and keep your eyes out for Bass Tournament dates. If you've never attended one I'd suggest you check it out, this event has proven to be one of our most successful and a great way to get the whole family out for a great day with NEPVA friends.
